Born from a Love
of Good Coffee
From a Kitchen Table to Roast Lane
It started, as most good things do, with an obsession. Founders Priya Sharma and Tom Rees met during a specialty coffee workshop in London in 2016. Within an hour of pulling their first espresso on a vintage La Marzocca, they both knew they wanted to do this for a living.
Three years later, after stints working at roasteries in Melbourne and Oslo, the pair returned to Priya's hometown of Maplewood with a clear goal: open a coffee shop that took quality as seriously as the city's best cafés, but felt as warm and unpretentious as your best friend's kitchen.
Grounds & Glory opened its doors in March 2019 with a second-hand espresso machine, twelve bar stools, and a sign hand-painted by Tom's mum. The queue on opening day stretched halfway down Roast Lane, and it hasn't really stopped since.

These aren't wall-art platitudes. They're the actual principles that shape every decision we make, from how we source our beans to how we train our baristas.
